Concerts in the Park Monday 7/6/2009 (7 to 8:30 p.m.) - 4 Days Away "The Answer" will perform the classic rock sounds of the Beatles, Tom Petty and the Rolling Stones for baby boomers and all music lovers from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Central Park, corner Washington & Bailey in Uptown. Whittier Cultural Arts Foundation Honors Night Wednesday 7/8/2009 (Begins 6 p.m.) - 6 Days Away Four local artists will be honored by the Whittier Cultural Arts Foundation at the group’s annual Honors Night on Wednesday, July 8 at 6 p.m. at the Radisson Hotel, 7320 Greenleaf Avenue. Artists to be honored are: Lalo Alcaraz, painter and illustrator, Visual Arts/Two Dimensional; Armando Baeza, sculptor, Visual Arts/Three Dimensional; Stephen Gothold, director of Chorale Bel Canto, Music; and Rick Rinaldi, owner of The Framery and the Fine Arts Gallery, Friend of the Arts. Tickets for the Honors Night are $40, and proceeds go to support the work of the Whittier Cultural Arts Foundation. The Foundation, which operates under the aegis of the Whittier Cultural Arts Commission, raises funds and makes recommendations for annual grants to encourage and support the arts in Whittier, including community arts programs as well as art programs and outreach in local schools. Activate Whittier Walking Club Saturday 7/11/2009 (Begins 8 a.m.) - 9 Days Away July's Activate Whittier Walking Club meeting will be at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 11. Enjoy mornings outdoors with exercise and companionship during these monthly jaunts. The Walking Club meets at the Palm Park Greenway Trailhead, 5703 Palm Ave. Designed for walkers of all ages and fitness levels, the Walking Club is a great way to get into the habit of walking as exercise. Families, teens, adults and seniors can all enjoy a summer morning and meet new people at the same time. Activate Whittier is co-sponsored by the Whittier Community Services Department, the Whittier YMCA, Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital and the L.A. County Health Department to encourage fitness and health for Whittier residents. Staff from the Community Services Department and the YMCA will be at the walks to assist participants.
